Evaluation Question 3- What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

We also asked members of our target audience to comment on our video via youtube to asses how well we put the video together what they thought of it and what they would improve/change.

We found that the black and white theme was effective and engaging and helped to promote a sense of ambiguity when paired with the masked faces of our characters. They thought that the disjuncture created by the cut up scenes and the reverse shots, especially at the end of the product when the video is 're-wound' was effective and fit in nicely with the narrative which they found amplified the lyrics well.
To improve, we found that we could have cut down the repetition of the reverse shots a little, and add more to the narrative to push the story line and help attract and engage our audience further.

Evaluation Question 3- What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

We asked a member of our target audience to complete an interview for us, so that we were able to see what worked for our product and whether it attracted her or not.

From this, we were able to discover that the video was very clearly an 'indie rock' music video and that this was reflected in our ancillary texts, which were effective in engaging an audience and linked well to the rest of our products.

Evaluation Question 2

Evaluation Question 1

digipacks

To support our product, we also created a digital pack consisting of an album cover, inside and back and an advertisement for our album. We had to come up with the images and title of the album and also a number of other tracks which would help represent our artist and promote both the single and the album.

Analysing Album Covers

We have looked at Indie Rock album covers to analyse what elements are included in the codes and conventions of this form. The albums we looked at were:
  • The Goo Goo Dolls: Dizzy Up The Girl
  • Arctic Monkeys: AM

Arctic Monkeys- Balaclava

Here is our final product: our A2 indie rock music video to the song Balaclava by Arctic Monkeys

Shot List and Shooting Schedule

For our shooting schedule, we had to take into consideration the availability of our performers, so many of the dates are when we had frees from school. This meant that we had very little time to film, so our settings had to be near/quite local so that we could get there in time to film.

Timeline

Character Profiles

Performer 1: Frontman- The main singer of the band, aged 19-23, looks a bit 'rugged' and a bit 'edgy'. Conforms to Hebdige's youth culture theory of young people being represented as 'fun' or 'trouble' as he will be a bit of a 'badboy'. He will be of working class, and will be inspired by the social realism movement. He will have 'bad' habbits, such as smoking and occasional drug taking. He will have occasional mood swings where he will go from being quite moody to really funand being up for a good time, however he is always dedicated to the band and spends hours alone writing lyrics which mean something to him. He doesn't conform to mainstream ideas and attitudes and goes out of his way to express his 'individuality'. He will be of white ethnicity, but will challenge Gramsci's theory by not being dominant or superior over any other ethnicity.

•Performer 2: Drums- This performer will again be in the age brackets of 19-23 and will have more of a 'rough' 'rugged' look to him with visable tattoos covering his arms. Like the frontman, the drummer will be of working class, and will have an array of 'dirty' habbits such as smoking and drinking. The drummers personality won't be as dominant and 'in your face' as the frontmans- he will be a little quieter and laidback, and will be the 'good' conscience of the band. Again like he forntma, the drumer will be of white ethnicity, but again will challenge Gramsci's theory by not having dominance over any other ethnicity.

Performer 3: Guitar- The guitarist and back up vocals of the band will be the youngest of the three, with an age range of 18-21, and will be the the most boisterous and and troublesome member of the band. He will be the little brother of the frontman, so will also be working class, and of white ethnicity. Like the other members, he will smoke and drink and will also occasioanlly abuse drugs. He will conform the most to Hebdige's youth culture theory as being 'fun' and 'trouble'    as he will be the one who always comes up with 'fun' ideas for them to do which usually ends up with them getting in trouble.

I put together a series of black and white setting which reflect the sort of places that our artists would visit. The images have quite a gritty feel and this is a main theme that we wish to convey throughout our music video.
